The Stars and Bars fly over a cemetery in Wardensville WV

The Stars and Bars fly over a cemetery in Wardensville WV

This was the first official flag of the Confederacy (March 1861- May 1863) and less well known than the "Confederate Battle Flags." On the battlefield, this flag caused confusion because of its similarities to the Stars and Stripes.

Each star represented an original Confederate state (SC - 12/20/1860, MS - 1/9/1861, FL - 1/10/1861, AL - 1/11/1861, GA - 1/19/1861, LA 1/26/1861 and TX 2/1/1861).
